INTRODUCTION
There is more than 650 million international trips per year in the world, and almost 50% of travellers develop some kind of health problem in their trip, needing medical aid outside their countries, often requiring hospitalization, generating nonplanned expenses and the consequent delay in their schedules.
Most of this problems could be avoided if prophylactic measures from an specialist were taken.
Lamentably most of travellers does not have access to this medical aid that could guarantee a calm and safe trip.
SOLUTION
The Travel Medicine & International Vaccination Center is the first medicine center for travellers in Peru and represents a joint effort of GIPEIT (Peruvian Group for Research in Infectious and Tropical Diseases) and the Tropical Medicine Institute “Daniel A. Carrión” of the UNMSM.
This is a center affiliated with the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) through its members.
It offers specialized individual attention to travellers, and give direction to companies, public and private institutions through consultancies and conferences.
Also it offers services in evaluation diagnoses of diseases related to the trip, evaluation of tourists in transit and medical certificates for travellers.
Although Travel Medicine is widely disclosed in Europe, North America and Australia for several decades, in Latin America it only has 10 years old and this center represents the first in Peru.
The primary target of Travel Medicine is the direction in prophylactic measures, such as vaccination and medicines (malaria) in order to avoid any health problem during your trip.
